Five A Day

five-a-day

In the UK there is a health campaign that promotes the concept that we should all consume at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables per day and supposedly we are falling short of that current target with an average of only 2 to 3 portions a day.

It’s easy to see why we neglect our fruit and vegetables – there’s often something far more tempting being offered!

It's easy to be tempted by other things!

I guess all I can say is that if you’re going to be tempted by a sweet treat then at least make it a “Hulababy Treat”!

However really we should get used to including fruit and vegetables in all our meals, and, ideally, they should be the first choice when reaching for a snack.

Studies have shown that increased fruit and vegetable intake can reduce the risk of chronic diseases such heart disease and certain cancers.

The health benefits can be obtained from fresh, frozen, canned (in natural juices), dried or cooked versions – although natural wisdom would suggest that it’s best to eat fresh food as much as possible.

… and in case you were wondering, pototates don’t count since they are basically starch.
