Milk
Jan 31st, 2010 | By Hulababy | Category: Food for ThoughtMilk seems to have gone out of fashion in recent years, mostly fuelled by vegetarians and soya supporters. Many people go on dairy-free diets to lose weight and a growing number of people (wrongly) self-diagnose themselves as having a dairy-intolerance.
However we need to bear in mind that milk is a very good source of protein, calcium, zinc and Vitamins A and B. There is no scientific evidence that drinking milk increases the risk of any illness, except prostate cancer, where there is a proven link.
As women get older calcium becomes more and more important to prevent osteoporosis.
I use both milk and soya in my recipes to keep my diet varied and to make the most of the health benefits of both milk and soya.
Whilst not all 1950s health messages would stand up to today’s standards I think it fair to say that this advert featured is still valid today.
